Jaelin Llewellyn discuss his knee injury, future with Michigan basketball

For the second time in his college basketball career, Llewellyn has suffered a major injury. Michigan assistant Phil Martelli, in an appearance on the “Inside Michigan Basketball” radio show on Monday night, said Llewellyn had started to look like his Princeton self in the days leading up to the Kentucky game. In 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic that would eliminate Ivy League basketball for the 2020-21 season, Llewellyn tore his Achilles on his first day back inside a gym. Dug had a great game. “Even though I can’t be out there on the court, I’ve played a bunch of college basketball and can provide insight.

ANN ARBOR -- Michigan will be without its starting point guard for the rest the season. Jaelin Llewellyn suffered an ACL injury to his left knee in Sunday’s game against Kentucky in London, Michigan announced on Wednesday. “We are devastated for Jaelin,” Michigan head coach Juwan Howard said in a statement. Bufkin leads Michigan with 2.9 assists per game; Howard is at 2.3 and has shown nice chemistry with Dickinson in ball-screen situations. For a Michigan team searching for quality depth early in the season, Llewellyn’s loss is a blow.

Michigan’s Jaelin Llewellyn injured, Jett Howard plays through injury vs. Kentucky

Michigan head coach Juwan Howard didn’t have an update on one injured player after Sunday’s loss to Kentucky. With 8:40 left in the second half of Michigan’s eventual 73-69 loss to Kentucky in London, Michigan starting point guard Jaelin Llewellyn fell to the floor in pain and grabbed his left knee. Llewellyn, a graduate transfer from Princeton, has not played to his potential yet in his first season with Michigan. Jett did have to leave Tuesday’s home loss to Virginia with 2:36 left after suffering what appeared to be some sort of leg injury. “I didn’t expect for Jett to play, nor did Jett expect to play today.

Newcomers shine in blowout win, as Michigan basketball builds depth

NEW YORK -- Michigan pummeled Pittsburgh on Wednesday night, 90-61, easily Michigan’s best all-around performance of this young season. He pointed to Michigan’s poor shooting numbers outside of Dickinson and clearly made the big man the focus of his defense. He posted a plus-15 in his 25 minutes, which means Michigan was even better without him on the floor on Wednesday. Duggie shinesThere was a moment in Michigan’s prior game, against Eastern Michigan in Detroit, when Howard urged McDaniel, a freshman, to slow down. Given all the shooting Michigan lost from last season, and some of the questions about who would fill that void, Baker’s play -- including his shooting -- will be important all season.

Michigan basketball: Meet your new Wolverines

It’s the start of the 2022-23 college basketball season, and just like years past, the Michigan Wolverines are entering the season ranked in the AP Top 25 at No. 22.

Five questions (and potential answers) for Michigan basketball

With just one returning starter and nine new players, the Michigan men’s basketball team has plenty of questions entering the 2022-23 season. Michigan plays its first exhibition game on Friday at home against Ferris State before hosting Purdue Fort Wayne in the regular-season opener on Monday. If Jaelin Llewellyn can perform for Michigan like his former Ivy League competitor, Mike Smith, did, Michigan will be in good shape. That weekend, Michigan plays preseason No. With Llewellyn and junior Terrance Williams II and possibly even freshman Jett Howard, Michigan should be better defensively at a few key spots.

Michigan him at 6-foot-7 and as a guard; he told MLive he viewed himself as a shooting guard or small forward. Transfer Jaelin Llewellyn hoping for one special season at Michigan

Jaelin Llewellyn didn’t choose Michigan as his transfer destination because of a free summer trip to Europe. The veteran point guard hopes it’s one great experience of many in what will be his lone season at Michigan. “It’s a good spot for a one-year deal.”Michigan lost its starting backcourt from last season, point guard DeVante’ Jones (another grad transfer) and Eli Brooks. The day after Llewellyn committed to Michigan, freshman point guard Frankie Collins entered the transfer portal. This is the third straight year Michigan has brought in a grad transfer point guard.

Jaelin Llewellyn’s jump to Michigan: Ivy League coaches expect success

It would be the third straight season Michigan started a grad transfer at point guard. In talking with opposing Ivy League coaches, several characteristics were repeated: athletic, quick, and a top-notch scorer and distributor. (Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ivy League did not play basketball during the 2020-21 season.) “He’s not a point guard who hangs around the 3-point line and hopes other guys do the dirty work,” Jaques said. “I think that’s why Ivy League grad transfers tend to do well.

Why did Frankie Collins transfer from Michigan?

Frankie Collins’ transfer out of Michigan felt different than the others. Collins’ announcement came the day after Michigan sealed the deal with point guard Jaelin Llewellyn, a graduate transfer from Princeton, and it doesn’t seem like that was a coincidence. When a member of Collins’ family asked about the roster, Michigan coaches’ responses were always the same, Martelli said. “I know that Juwan more than anybody was prepared for the conversation (with Collins),” Martelli said. “He is a point guard who could play combo (guard), not a combo who could play point,” Martelli said.

The day after a veteran guard joined the Michigan men’s basketball program, a promising young one left. Freshman point guard Frankie Collins announced on Saturday evening that he was entering the transfer portal. “I want to give a huge shoutout to the Michigan staff, players, Maize Rage, and fans,” Collins wrote in a post to social media. Players have through Sunday (May 1) to enter the portal and still be eligible to play next season. Jones returned for Michigan’s second-round game, against Tennessee, but got hurt, forcing Collins to play the majority of the game.

Michigan basketball shows interest in transfers

It’s become a Michigan men’s basketball program policy that its coaches, at the very least, take calls regarding potential incoming transfers. Shannon, a 6-foot-6 wing, spent the past three seasons at Texas Tech. The Ivy League did not play basketball in 2020-21, so Llewellyn has three seasons of college basketball experience. He’s from Mississauga, Ontario, the same town as Michigan freshman Caleb Houstan and former Wolverine Nik Stauskas. Next season, Michigan will have to replace its starting backcourt of DeVante’ Jones and Eli Brooks.
