Olympic Gold medalist joins AFC Ann Arbor’s women’s soccer team
ANN ARBOR – AFC Ann Arbor’s women’s soccer team has added an Olympic Gold medalist to its roster. Canadian and University of Michigan soccer player Jayde Riviere joined AFC Ann Arbor’s team for the 2022 season, the team announced on Thursday afternoon. Jayde Riviere helped Team Canada claim the 2020 Olympic Gold medal and helped the Wolverines in their NCAA Tournament quarterfinal and Big Ten title run last fall. The 21-year-old defender joins an Ann Arbor team that will begin play in the USL W League and will open its season May 7 against Flint City AFC. “I’ve heard nothing but great things from teammates and coaches regarding AFCAA,” Riviere said in a release on the team’s website.

The duo helped Canada’s women’s soccer team win its first gold medal by beating Sweden in a penalty shootout on Friday after beat Sweden in the gold medal match Friday after the teams ended 120 minutes of play tied 1-1. Zadorsky, a two-time all-Big Ten defender and 2013 team captain at Michigan, played less than a minute in the gold medal match but played full matches against Chile and Great Britain. She also won a bronze medal with Canada at the 2016 Olympic games. Michigan’s total medal count is up to 11, with Canadian swimmer Maggie MacNeil leading the way with three (one gold, one silver, one bronze.
