Michigan tops Iowa for first conference title since 2004, earns place in College Football Playoff

The Michigan Wolverines have won their first Big Ten Conference football championship since 2004, first outright since 2003, and subsequently earned their spot in the College Football Playoff to play for a national championship.

He finished 12-of-18 passing for 281 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-30 comeback victory at Michigan Stadium. He does not yet have a 247Sports Composite rating but is a top-100 prospect according to 247Sports.

Charles Woodson, Steve Hutchinson’s Hall of Fame inductions ‘a thrill’ for Michigan’s Lloyd Carr

Before the Michigan football team’s 1997 season, then-head coach Lloyd Carr sat down with Charles Woodson and asked what his star cornerback’s goals were for the year. But the answer Woodson gave Carr before the national championship season in 1997 was exactly what the longtime Michigan coach wanted to hear. “He had the experience and was such a great competitor,” Carr told MLive Monday at the “Coach Carr Classic” golf fundraiser for the ChadTough Defeat DIPG Foundation. He too was officially inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Sunday after a 12-year career, making for a special night for Carr. They were special guys.

ChadTough continues fight against pediatric cancer with first ‘Coach Carr Classic’ golf fundraiser

Carr’s son, Jason Carr, and his wife, Tammi Carr, lost their son, Chad Carr, at age 5 to a cancerous brain tumor called diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). In January, the ChadTough Foundation united with the Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation to form one organization. Their first major fundraising event since the merger was held Monday: the Coach Carr Classic at Walnut Creek Country Club in South Lyon. Tammi asked Long to be a keynote speaker a few months ago, which prompted an immediate ‘yes’ from the 2008 No. All proceeds benefit the ChadTough Defeat DIPG Foundation.

Michigan is the first to offer the freshman, who also is the grandson of former Wolverines football coach Lloyd Carr. Harbaugh is now under contract at Michigan through the 2025 season with his new deal. And when Wisconsin beat the Wolverines 49-11 in 2020, Harbaugh fell to 0-11 in games his team was not favored to win. That left Harbaugh in a bit of a lurch going into the uncertain season with just two years left on his contract.

Joe Roberson, Michigan AD during ‘97 championship, dies

ANN ARBOR – Joseph “Joe” Roberson, the University of Michigan athletic director who served during the football team’s national championship season in 1997, died Monday, school officials said. Roberson was Michigan’s athletic director from 1994-97, hiring football coach Lloyd Carr in 1995. On the main Ann Arbor campus, he also served as head of corporate fundraising and associate vice president. Roberson also hired Warde Manuel, who rose to become athletic director. Roberson, who received his undergraduate degree from Michigan’s Flint campus and his master’s and doctorate degrees in Ann Arbor, also was an athlete.
