JACKSON -- Manchester wrestler Jacob Bunn has been voted the Athlete of the Week for the Jackson area for February 28 through March 5. Bunn won the Division 4 112-pound state championship at Ford Field, capping off a 46-2 season. Bunn won a narrow vote over fellow state champion wrestler Danni Swihart of Hanover-Horton by 110 votes out of more than 29,000 cast. Hillsdale basketball player Jack Bowles was third.

MANCHESTER, MI - When residents in the western Washtenaw County village of Manchester head to the ballot box in November, they’ll be making choices that could shape the village’s path to cityhood. They’ll do that by electing a City Charter Commission, a nine-member body charged with drafting the would-be city’s charter, the foundational document defining the organization and powers of local government. The drafted charter must be reviewed by the Michigan Governor’s Office and be approved in a local election by a majority of Manchester village voters as well. In Michigan, cities and townships are the two primary units of local government, and Manchester village acts as a sub-unit of Manchester Township. Manchester will be releasing more information on the City Charter Commission election in its newsletter, Vailliencourt said, adding residents can also ask questions at the Manchester Village Council’s regular meetings, where time is reserved for updates on the process.

Police found Rebecca Reynolds, 36, dead Sunday, Feb. 20, in her vehicle, which had crashed into drainage ditch near her Manchester home, according to Michigan State Police. Officers were investigating her disappearance after she was reported missing by an a family member in Bridgewater Township, police said. Troopers responded to the missing persons report at 8 p.m. Sunday and, during the course of the investigation, located a vehicle off the roadway submerged in a drainage ditch near her home, police said. Though the cause of death has not yet been determined, it is not believed to be suspicious at this time, police said.

CHELSEA, MI – A Manchester man has apologized for appreciating a piece of artwork on a Chelsea business wall so much he wrongfully decided to take it home with him on the way out, police said. The complainant told officers he was baffled when he arrived to work and noticed a piece of framed artwork was missing from the wall of the business, police said. The man, wondering what had happed to the art, checked security footage from the day prior and witnessed a customer taking the art off the wall and walking away with it at about 6:20 p.m., police said. The man spoke with officers and said he “felt bad” and apologized for taking the art before agreeing to bring it to the Chelsea Police Department to be returned to its rightful owner, police said. The art was then returned to the owner who declined to press criminal charges for the theft.
