Manny Diaz was fired as Miami’s football coach Monday, after a 7-5 regular season and with the school in deep negotiations to bring Oregon coach Mario Cristobal back to his alma mater to take over. Diaz went 21-15 in three seasons at Miami.

King, a team captain, injured his shoulder taking a hit from Michigan State linebacker Quavaris Crouch on Sept. 18 and has not played since. The Hurricanes lost to Michigan State 38-17 at home. Diaz told 560 WQAM radio in Miami that King will have surgery on his right shoulder, and freshman Tyler Van Dyke will start moving forward. “That guy, as you saw in the Michigan State game, would do anything to get back on the field and be able to play for us,” Diaz said.
