MARCUS MAYE

Lawrence, McCaffrey, Jones headline 2021 All-Absent Team

Every year, players in every NFL city fail to meet expectations.

Taylor, ground game help Colts find easy path past Jets

Carson Wentz threw three touchdown passes and Jonathan Taylor rushed for 172 yards and two scores as Indianapolis beat the New York Jets 45-30.

Jones, Patriots breeze past Jets as Wilson throws 4 INTs

Mac Jones was smart and efficient, Damien Harris and James White had touchdown runs and the New England Patriots took advantage of a nightmarish outing by Zach Wilson in a 25-6 victory over the New York Jets.

AP source: WR Crowder agrees to renegotiated deal with Jets

A person with direct knowledge of the decision says New York Jets wide receiver Jamison Crowder agreed to a renegotiated deal that will keep him with the team through this season.

Zach Wilson is the new face of the New York Jets and the latest quarterback tasked with lifting the team back to respectability.

Nobody comes for free in NFL free agency that begins Monday

Regardless, on Monday, two days before the NFL's 2021 business year begins, the 32 teams and agents for the players will be making deals. “Legal tampering, and tampering is illegal? AdOf course, free agency always is a buyer-beware situation. AdVoila: Lavonte David, a key linebacker, was re-signed, and several other key guys in the title run could be back. “We do have some money from a cap standpoint that we can spend; but again, it’s an interesting year.

Receivers Godwin, Robinson top franchise tag list

(AP Photo/Jason Behnken, File)The big money that accompanies franchise tags for the 2021 season is going to receivers, safeties and linemen. So wideouts Chris Godwin, who helped the Buccaneers win the Super Bowl, and Chicago's Allen Robinson were tagged just before Tuesday's NFL deadline. Barring their teams working out long-term deals by July 15, they will earn about $19 million, $18 million and $13.7 million, respectively. The going rate for safeties under their first tag is around $10.5 million, which Maye and Marcus Williams will make in New Jersey. RECEIVERSThe 25-year-old Godwin earned $2.13 million in 2020 when he had 65 receptions for 840 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games.

Jets' Douglas praises Darnold, but open to trading QB

FILE - New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold rolls out to pass against the New England Patriots in the first half of an NFL football game in Foxborough, Mass., in this Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, file photo. (AP Photo/Charles Krupa, File)NEW YORK – Sam Darnold's time as the face of the New York Jets franchise might be nearing a disappointing end. General manager Joe Douglas has backed off that stance, though, and it could signal a major change at the position as free agency and the NFL draft approach. “I will answer the call if it's made,” Douglas said Wednesday when asked if he'd listen to offers for Darnold. AdThe Jets could also opt to stick with Darnold, for at least this year, and trade down from No.

Erase that 0!: Jets edge Rams 23-20, avoid winless season

Coach Adam Gase got his first win of the year only after New York blew most of a 17-point lead in the second half. New York had a 13-3 lead at halftime after holding the Rams to 97 yards, and the Jets led 20-3 midway through the third quarter. Nsimba Webster’s huge punt return put the Rams in Jets territory moments later, but the New York defense held with help from penalties. INJURIESJets: DL Quinnen Williams left in the second half to be evaluated for a head injury. ... WR Jeff Smith injured his shoulder in the second half.

'My Cause My Cleats' campaign has taken a foothold in NFL

(AP Photo/Elaine Thompson)DENVER – The “ My Cause My Cleats ” initiative has really established a foothold in the NFL. Five years ago, about 500 players participated in the inaugural campaign, marking the first time players could wear custom cleats during games without facing fines. Some players whose teams were on the road last week can wear their cleats at home this weekend. “You can just go out there and wear custom cleats on the field and really show off what you’ve been working so hard for in the offseason,” Chubb said. “Season after season I am inspired by the growing number of NFL players that participate in ‘My Cause My Cleats’ and the causes they represent,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said.

Jets fire Gregg Williams after call on defense costs 1st win

(AP Photo/Julio Cortez, File)NEW YORK – Adam Gase thought through the final agonizing moments of the New York Jets' stunning loss and tried to not make a rash decision. The coach got a little bit of sleep before he headed to the team's facility Monday morning — with the same conclusion he had Sunday night: defensive coordinator Gregg Williams had to go. I wish I would've called timeout, but I didn't.”The 62-year-old Williams had been the Jets' defensive coordinator the past two seasons under Gase. The no-nonsense Williams has made a career of being an aggressive play caller on defense, but the Jets have struggled this year while ranking 29th in total defense and 30th in scoring defense. But the Jets' defense had mostly done its job Sunday, including a fourth-down stop with 1:37 left.

Dolphins turn up heat on Jets and embattled Gase, 24-0

The Jets (0-6) became the NFL's only winless team and continued their worst start since 1996, increasing the heat on embattled coach Adam Gase. The Dolphins blanked the Jets for the first time since the January 1983 AFC championship game, which they won 14-0. The two teams were a combined 0 for 19 on third downs before the Jets finally converted with 11 minutes left. The Dolphins' only third-down conversion came on a completion by Tagovailoa, who went 2 for 2 for 9 yards. ANTHEMRunning back Ty Jackson was the only player kneeling for the Jets during “The Star-Spangled Banner.”The Dolphins stayed in the locker room.

Murray runs for TD, throws another, Cardinals rip 0-5 Jets

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (1) runs in a touchdown against New York Jets free safety Marcus Maye (20) during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, in East Rutherford. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig)EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Arizona Cardinals certainly came to the right place to get back on the winning track. Having Kyler Murray and the offense put up nearly 500 yards against the hapless and winless Jets was almost predictable. “I don’t want anyone on the team to feel satisfied with what happened today," said Murray, who threw for 380 yards. Jets: play at Miami next Sunday as NFL reorganizes schedule due to coronavirus pandemic.

Broncos top winless Jets 37-28 for first victory of season

On third-and-6 and the Jets leading by one, Quinnen Williams sacked Brett Rypien — but grabbed the quarterback’s helmet and prolonged the drive. Brian Poole then intercepted Rypien, making his first NFL start, on the Broncos’ next possession, giving the Jets the ball at Denver’s 44. Darnold gave the Jets their first lead of the season with a dazzling run that would make running back teammates Frank Gore and Le'Veon Bell proud. Darnold was able to come back early in the second quarter on the Jets' next series — and was promptly sacked again. The Jets took advantage — eventually.

49ers blast Jets 31-13, but lose Garoppolo, Bosa, Mostert

It was a costly victory for San Francisco, which was already short-handed before losing Garoppolo to an ankle injury and Mostert to an injured knee. Defensive end Nick Bosa and defensive tackle Solomon Thomas were both carted off the field two plays apart with left knee injuries in the first quarter. Bosa was carted off the field with a left knee injury. Two plays later, Thomas needed to be carted off — also with a left knee injury —after an 8-yard reception by Chris Hogan. The drive was prolonged by a roughing-the-passer penalty on Henry Anderson when the Jets appeared to have stopped San Francisco on third-and-8.

Allen tops 300 yards passing in Bills' 27-17 win over Jets

(AP Photo/Jeffrey T. Barnes)ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Josh Allen led three consecutive first-half touchdown drives, and the Buffalo Bills overcame their own sloppiness and injuries to two starting linebackers in a 27-17 season-opening win over the New York Jets on Sunday. Allen finished 33 of 46 for 312 yards in becoming Buffalo's first player to top 300 yards since Tyrod Taylor had 329 in a 34-31 overtime loss to Miami on Dec. 24, 2016. Allen also scored on a 2-yard run, though his fumbles proved costly with both coming inside Jets territory. After driving the Bills on three consecutive scoring drives, Allen closed the first half by fumbling at the Jets 12. The Jets finished the game without starting running back Le’Veon Bell, who was ruled out in the second half due to a hamstring injury.

Gase hopes unhappy Adams remains with Jets

FILE - In this Thursday, July 25, 2019, file photo, New York Jets head coach Adam Gase smiles during practice at the NFL football team's training camp in Florham Park, N.J. Adam Gase still absolutely envisions Jamal Adams as a member of the New York Jets this season. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig, File)NEW YORK Adam Gase still absolutely envisions Jamal Adams as a member of the New York Jets this season. So, the Jets don't feel obligated to redo Adams' rookie deal right now. Gase was also very complimentary of Adams, who has been the team's top all-around performer the last two seasons. That's why he was so angry last October when general manager Joe Douglas fielded phone calls from clubs inquiring about what it might take for the Jets to deal Adams.
