Former Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus is expected to be named the new bench coach for the Oakland Athletics, the MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported Friday. Ausmus will work under first-year manager Mark Kotsay, who replaced veteran skipper Bob Melvin. He was hired by the Tigers to replace retiring manager Jim Leyland before the 2014 season, despite having no on-field coaching or managing experience. The Tigers made the playoffs in 2014 but were swept in the first round. Ausmus has been in the mix for other jobs since then, interviewing to be manager of the New York Mets last month, a job that eventually went to Buck Showalter.
