Major highway near downtown Muskegon closing for a month for sewer repairs
MUSKEGON, MI – A sewer line break will cause a major headache for motorists traveling on Business U.S. 31 in Muskegon – and an estimated $500,000 price tag for the county. While the road is closed, traffic will be detoured using Marquette Avenue and Ottawa Street/ Western Avenue. Moses Jones Parkway/BR U.S. 31 near downtown Muskegon will close between Shoreline Drive and Marquette Avenue from Nov. 2 through Nov. 30 for sewer repairs.

MUSKEGON, MI – Sewer repairs caused the closure of a section of Shoreline Drive in Muskegon Thursday. Northbound Shoreline, between Terrace Street and Marquette Avenue, was closed Oct. 20, according to a notice the Muskegon Professional Firefighters Union posted on Facebook. Terrace Street currently is closed at Shoreline Drive for a narrowing project. One detour involves taking Seventh, Third or First streets off of Shoreline Drive to Muskegon Avenue, traveling north to Spring Street, east to Yuba Street and north on Yuba to Marquette. The section of northbound Shoreline Drive between Terrace Street and Marquette Avenue was shut down Thursday, Oct. 20, for sewer repairs.

MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – A nonprofit agency focused on children’s nutrition plans to pay $700,000 cash for a building owned by Muskegon County near downtown. Kids’ Food Basket, headquartered in Grand Rapids, was formed to address food insecurity. It wasn’t immediately clear what the organization plans to do with the health department building. The purchase agreement was approved unanimously by the Muskegon County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 27. It also provides for Kids’ Food Basket to lease on a month-to-month basis vacant space in a nearby county-owned building until renovations to the health department building are complete for it to use.

MUSKEGON, MI -- Muskegon police are investigating a shooting that happened about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10 in the area of Oakhill Drive and Marquette Avenue. Police responded to the area on a report of a window shot out and a male with a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers were told a man was seen running from the area. The injured man was taken to a local hospital. HIs condition was not known late Wednesday.

BAY CITY, MI - Bay City officials sent out an alert to warn motorists about road construction that is slated to begin soon on the city’s West Side. According to the city, crews will start work on a resurfacing project on Marquette Avenue on August 9. The Bay City Times previously reported that the city was awarded the grant for the Marquette Avenue project in January 2020. MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – A section of Quarterline Road in Muskegon Township will be closed for two days to allow for construction work. Quarterline from Apple Avenue to Madalene Avenue will be shut in both directions on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 22-23, according to a notice from the Muskegon County Road Commission. The posted detour will direct motorists along Apple Avenue, Sheridan Road and Marquette Avenue.
