Potential for bacteria triggers boil water advisory in Mt. Morris area

Morris and some areas surrounding the city are being told to boil their water before drinking it after a city of Flint valve failure caused two water main breaks on Clio Road. The Genesee County Drain Commissioner’s Office issued the advisory on Wednesday, Aug. 31, saying the valve failure caused a pressure surge in the county water system, resulting in the breaks and the potential for bacterial contamination. “However, as a precautionary measure, the city of Mount Morris is being placed under a boil water order. Drinking water and water used to make ice, for brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation should be boiled for 1 minute before it’s used. “We will inform you when tests show no bacteria and you no longer need to boil your water,” the drain office announcement says.

BUENA VISTA TWP, MI — A collision on Interstate 75 between a semi tractor-trailer and a minivan has claimed the life of a Mount Morris man. The crash occurred about 2:35 p.m. on I-75 near M-46 in Buena Vista Township. A 2015 Volvo semi hauling a box trailer had been experiencing mechanical issues and its driver, a 40-year-old Pennsylvania man, tried reaching an exit. As he was doing so, the trailer was rear-ended by a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country, driven by 47-year-old Steven Cronin of Mount Morris. Troopers from the Tri-City Post were assisted at the scene by the MSP Third District Traffic Crash Reconstructionist, Mobile Medical Response, and Buena Vista Township Fire Department.
