3 Northern Michigan men arraigned in 2019 Pigeon River Country elk poaching case
OSTEGO COUNTY, Mich. – Three Northern Michigan men have been arraigned in a 2019 Pigeon River Country elk poaching case. Officials said the three men are responsible for what Department of Natural Resources conservation officers call a “historic elk poaching case.”They were arraigned in the Otsego County 87A District Court. All three men pleaded not guilty to a total of eight wildlife crimes after admitting to poaching three cow elk in Pigeon River Country in December of 2019. Harry White, 70, of West Branch was arraigned on three charges: taking an over-limit of elk, failing to make a reasonable effort to retrieve elk and taking elk in the wrong hunting unit. “Without our officers’ professional commitment to pursuit of the facts, these suspects would have gotten away with one of the worst elk poaching incidents I have ever seen.
Michigan State Police seek missing 78-year-old man in early stages of dementia
GAYLORD, Mich. Police are looking for a missing 78-year-old man from Gaylord last seen Saturday evening. According to authorities, Nelson William Wheaton was last seen riding his green Polaris Ranger on Beechnut Trail. Police said Wheaton is in the early stages of dementia and left his phone, wallet and hearing aids at his home. Anyone who has seen Nelson William Wheaton or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call the Michigan State Police Gaylord Regional Dispatch at 989-732-5141.
Northern Michigan man accused of armed standoff with police after allegedly sexually assaulting child
OSTEGO COUNTY, Mich. – A man from northern Michigan is accused of sexually assaulting a child then locking himself in a house with a gun during a standoff with police. According to officials, a child’s parents contacted Michigan State Police on March 21 and said the child had been sexually assaulted. Police interviewed the child then obtained arrest warrants for Doyle. According to police, Doyle allegedly locked himself in the basement with .22 caliber handgun. Doyle is being held in the Otsege County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.
