ANN ARBOR, MI – An Ann Arbor man who attacked a 15-year-old boy in a parking lot and sent the teen to the hospital is going to prison. Newbern, 21, pleaded no contest, Feb. 8, to one felony count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, court records show. Newbern was arrested and charged in connection with the beating of two 15-year-old boys in a parking lot in the 2500 block of Jackson Avenue on Oct. 26, according to the Ann Arbor Police Department. Police were called to the parking lot about 3:15 p.m. where they found the two teens. ANN ARBOR, MI – A man accused of opening fire at an Ypsilanti Township pool party in 2019, killing one attendee, will continue to remain in jail until trial. Benjamin Anthony Craft will continue to be held without bond following a hearing Monday, Jan. 26, before Washtenaw County Trial Judge Patrick Conlin. Shots were exchanged between multiple subjects at the party and Smith was the only one struck, police said. Craft’s previous attorney, attempted to have the statements thrown out, arguing Craft was coerced into making the statements without an attorney present. Open murder allows a jury to decide the degree of murder if the suspect is found guilty.
