Portage man killed in car-motorcycle crash in Jackson
JACKSON, MI -- A 38-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a vehicle crash Friday morning in Jackson, police said. At about 6:45 a.m. Aug. 5, officers from the Jackson Police Department responded to a traffic crash at the intersection of Cooper Street and Porter Street, near the northern Jackson city limits. The driver of the motorcycle -- identified as Tyrel Caldwell, of Portage -- was pronounced dead at the scene soon after officers arrived, police said. Caldwell was wearing a helmet, and neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be a factor in the crash, police said. Both lanes of Cooper Street near Porter Street were closed for several hours after the crash Friday morning.

Mayor unveils plans to revitalize long-abandoned row houses in Southwest Detroit
DETROIT Mayor Mike Duggan unveiled a plan Tuesday to revitalized the long-abandoned row houses on Porter Street in Southwest Detroit. The row houses are just around the corner from Western International High School. Lifelong resident Frank Apoloni said the neighborhood used to be exclusive. This is where all the rich people used to live.With an assist from the citys strategic neighborhood fund, the Murray Building is now set to become a 12-unit development. Theres a lot of people who want to live down here, but the places arent ready for them, Apoloni said.
