Q&A: Stanley Tucci on grief, food and 'Supernova'
In "Supernova," Tucci plays a man slipping into dementia taking a possibly final road trip with his longtime partner, played by Colin Firth. In โSupernova,โ Tucci plays Tusker, a novelist on the edge of early on-set dementia. Speaking by video conference from London, Tucci mused that he might celebrate the film's premiere by a Zoom with Firth, over Negronis. I cooked for Colin when I did โSupernova.โ Weโve been friends for a long time so weโre in each otherโs kitchens. Iโm older but Iโm not old yet, I donโt think.
Where to watch two new star-studded films this weekend
Movie critic Greg Russell is back with his thoughts on Supernova and The Little Things, the latest two movies from a cast of Academy Award-winning actors. First Russell took a look at Supernova, a drama that follows Stanley Tucci and Colin Firth after many years of living together as a couple. Russell got to speak with Tucci, who said he prepared for the role by watching documentaries and learning from real people. In the film, Washington plays a cop who winds up investigating a crime in the heart of LA, but as he uncovers pieces of the case, they start to hit close to home. NASAโs Hubble telescope captures exploding star fade into oblivion
Hubble astronomers were using the supernova as part of a program to precisely measure the expansion rate of the universe โ a key value in understanding the physical underpinnings of the cosmos. The supernova serves as a milepost marker to measure galaxy distances, a fundamental value needed for measuring the expansion of space. In the time-lapse sequence, spanning nearly a year, the supernova first appears as a blazing star located on the galaxyโs outer edge. This allows astronomers to measure the expansion rate of the universe. Over the past 30 years Hubble has helped dramatically improve the precision of the universeโs expansion rate.
