KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI – A man who drunkenly drove a boat, hitting and killing a swimmer over the Fourth of July holiday weekend in 2019, is heading to prison. Tyler Boyd, 39, of Richland was sentenced to 15 months to 15 years in prison by Kalamazoo County Circuit Judge Gary Giguere Jr. during a March 14 hearing. He pleaded pleaded guilty Jan. 10 to marine safety — operating while intoxicated, causing death, in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court. Boyd was operating a boat when it hit and killed Jack William Mitchell, 18, on Gull Lake on July 5, 2020. Before sentencing Boyd, Giguere acknowledged the mother’s pain, and said sentencing never bring the closure families think it will.

Tyler Boyd, pleaded guilty Jan. 10 to marine safety — operating while intoxicated causing death in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court. Boyd, 39, of Richland, was driving a boat and hit and killed Jack William Mitchell, 18, on Gull Lake on July 5, 2020. A woman in the boat saw a swimmer’s head in front of the boat and she warned Boyd, who quickly reacted, according to the testimony of Emily Merz. Boyd jumped into the water to bring the man to the boat and yelled for others to call 911, Merz testified previously.

Dr. Allen Sills, the league's chief medical officer, referred to three sources of exposure: household, outside medical providers, and community/social settings. "They apply for seven days following (a team's) elimination, and include daily testing and other protocols that will remain in place. It expects to have seven games with fans in the stadium on Sunday when every team finishes the regular season.

They learned Sunday morning they will be without starting rookie left tackle Jedrick Wills against the New York Jets because of an illness. The Browns will be missing receivers Rashard Higgins, Donovan Peoples-Jones and KhaDarel Hodge and linebacker Jacob Phillips. The Indianapolis Colts will be without both starting offensive tackles when they face the Pittsburgh Steelers. This comes after they placed LB Whitney Mercilus on the COVID list on Christmas.

‘We hit a swimmer:’ witness recalls boat crash that killed man on Gull Lake

KALAMAZOO, MI — A man accused of causing a crash while intoxicated that killed a swimmer on Gull Lake this summer will face trial, a Kalamazoo County judge ruled Friday. “We hit a swimmer,” Merz said, when asked about the boat ride that day. She immediately warned Boyd, Merz testified, and he reacted very quickly. Boyd was operating the boat, and he immediately shut it down after the swimmer was hit, Merz said. Boyd grew up on Gull Lake, Merz said.
