Bay City approves Third Street partial closure compromise for 2022 ‘Feet on the Street’ season
BAY CITY, MI - This year’s Feet on the Street road closure will look a bit different under the Third Street Star Bridge area in Bay City. On Monday, April 18, the Bay City Commission unanimously approved a traffic control order that allows for a portion of Third Street to be closed for the 2022 summer outdoor dining season. The partial closure came about as a compromise after business owners voiced their concerns about the full closure returning for a third year. The Third Street is a part of Bay City’s Feet on the Street outdoor dining program that was launched in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bergey explained that the partial traffic doesn’t address her concerns since her window displays will not be able to be seen by vehicle traffic.mlive.com
Kalamazoo’s Water Street Coffee Joint moving its kitchen into former MacKenzies Bakery downtown
KALAMAZOO, MI — Water Street Coffee Joint is expanding its downtown footprint. Smutek later sold the brand to Vicksburg native Chris Moore, who plans to open Mackenzies Vicksburg later this year with the intentional, albeit slight, name change. While any possible expansion plans are being kept under Smutek’s hat at this time, Water Street Coffee Joint office manager Aaron Clay did say that with the opening of the new kitchen space — the first outright owned kitchen for the company since it was founded in 1993 — new menu options will appear this fall. As they neared the conclusion of the lease at the Elm Valley Road location, the purchase of MacKenzie’s Bakery came at the right time, Clay said. “Since the purchase, we’ve been working on this new space at the Harrison Street building,” he said.mlive.com
