June 1st arrival gives NFL teams more flexibility

Now that the calendar has turned to June, NFL teams can trade or release players and spread the salary cap hit over two years instead of one.

Analysis: Wentz, Elliott provide little bang for buck

Wentz was paid more than $39 million in cash this season and had a cap hit of $18.6 million. The Eagles now have to decide what to do with Wentz, who has a cap hit of more than $34 million next season. RB EZEKIEL ELLIOTT: The Cowboys gave Elliott a $90 million, six-year extension before reaching a deal with quarterback Dak Prescott. Elliott is coming off the least productive season of his career with 979 yards and six TDs while getting paid nearly $11 million for a team that finished 6-10. But Green had just 47 catches for 523 yards in 16 games, providing little value for his big salary.

AP Source: Wentz needs time to think about future in Philly

(AP Photo/Derik Hamilton)PHILADELPHIA – Carson Wentz needs time away to think about his future with the Philadelphia Eagles and there's hope his relationship with the team won’t end in a divorce, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Tuesday. Wentz also hasn’t discussed his future with team officials yet, according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because it’s a private matter. Carson Wentz doesn’t want to be a backup quarterback,” said Zach Ertz, one of Wentz’s closest friends on the team. The Eagles would absorb a significant cap hit of $33.8 million in dead money on the 2021 cap if they trade Wentz before March 19. Wentz started every game in 2019 and helped the Eagles win the NFC East with an excellent four-game stretch in December.

The Giants (5-10) can get in by beating the Cowboys if Washington loses. UP NEXTPhiladelphia has Dallas' fate in its hands at home against Washington in the regular-season finale.

Doug Pederson makes it clear he wants to stay in Philly

“I don’t want out of Philly,” Pederson told The Associated Press on Tuesday. Despite a dismal 4-9-1 record and a quarterback controversy, the Eagles are still in the race for the NFC East title. It’s all about getting into the tournament.”Injuries have forced Pederson to shuffle his offensive line unit, using 13 different combinations in 14 games. Under Pederson, the Eagles are 11-2 in games they must win or be eliminated from the playoffs or contention. Whomever ends up taking the snaps in 2021, Pederson will be ready to coach them.

Murray, Hopkins lead Cardinals past Eagles 33-26

He had a lot of good moments, but couldn't lead the Eagles to any points on their last two offensive drives. Murray threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns, while Hurts responded with 177 yards passing and three touchdowns. The Cardinals also missed a great opportunity when Hopkins fumbled at the Eagles 8 after catching a short pass from Murray. Fitzgerald’s 14-yard catch from Kyler Murray pushed the Cardinals ahead 26-14 late in the second quarter.

(AP Photo/Derik Hamilton)PHILADELPHIA – Lamar Jackson threw for a touchdown and ran for a score and the Baltimore Ravens held on for a 30-28 victory over the depleted Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The Eagles cut it to 30-22 when Wentz avoided pressure and heaved an 18-yard TD pass to Travis Fulgham into triple coverage on fourth-and-9. Wentz scored a few plays later, but couldn’t get in the end zone to tie it on the conversion. Wentz ran for 5 yards on first down on the fourth drive, tried to knock over defenders and got stripped at the Eagles 28.

Lions vs. Eagles preview: Detroit looks for second straight win over 2018 playoff team

Let's look at the Eagles' key players, headlines going into the game and see what the Lions need to do to win. Lions' offense vs Jim Schwartz's defense: While they didn't put up a lot of points last week, the Lions' offense has quietly been a Top 10 offense in the NFL. Eagles' high-powered offense: Eagles' head coach Doug Pederson is one of the top play callers in football. Right now, the Eagles' offense relies heavily on Carson Wentz's ability to lead them down the field. How the Lions win: No question the Lions will want to run the ball and try to control the clock.
