DETROIT – Construction at Detroit Metro Airport will probably slow you down if you're traveling or even if you're just picking up a family member.
Here's the info from DTW and MDOT:
WHAT: Customers heading to Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) should allow extra drive time to navigate through campus improvement projects that impact the rental car area and the airport’s northern gateway. Beginning Aug. 9, airport visitors will notice significant lane closures and traffic shifts on Rogell Drive between the I-94 ramps and the North Terminal.
WHO: Travelers heading to the North Terminal may experience delays. The following airlines offer service at the North Terminal: Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Frontier, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Royal Jordanian, Southwest, Spirit and United.
Also, customers using the airport’s rental car facilities need to plan ahead, especially if they are flying out of the North Terminal. Lucas Drive, the roadway which provides access to the rental lots, is under construction as well. Anyone returning a rental car is advised to use Middlebelt Road to access Lucas Drive.
Travelers heading to the McNamara Terminal—home to Delta Air Lines, Air France and Aeromexico—are urged to “arrive 275.” Customers can avoid the Rogell Drive traffic by taking I-275 to Eureka Road and utilizing the airport’s south entrance. Through September, there will be occasional lane closures on Dingell Drive near the McNamara Terminal, due to an unrelated project.
Drivers who are picking up passengers are encouraged to use cell phone waiting lots and short-term parking to reduce roadway congestion.
WHY: These improvement projects are necessary to enhance roadway safety and capacity, improve traveler access and wayfinding, while also modernizing the airport’s infrastructure.
