Woman cut out of vehicle after serious crash on 8 Mile Road near Woodward

Woman in critical condition, 3 others also injured

FERNDALE, Mich. – A serious crash Friday morning on 8 Mile Road has left a woman in critical condition.

The westbound lanes of 8 Mile Road had to be closed at Woodward Avenue.

There were two vehicles involved in the crash. A Chevrolet Trailblazer rolled over after being hit by a Hyundai sedan going at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the Hyundai is in critical condition. She was cut out of the vehicle by authorities. She is a 29-year-old woman from Detroit. Two other people were in the vehicle with her. They suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Trailblazer, who was alone in the SUV, was hurt but not seriously.

Police said the Hyundai was travelin at more than 80 miles per hour on the westbound side of 8 Mile Road. They suspected the Hyundai driver was drunk at the time of the crash.

It's unclear why she was driving so fast. Police are investigating.
