Oakland County woman accused of using $20M state grant to buy rugs, private dinners, home decor

Fay Beydoun, a Farmington Hills businesswoman and former MEDC executive committee member, faces 16 felony charges for allegedly misusing a $20 million Michigan state grant intended for a business accelerator. Prosecutors claim Beydoun used the funds for personal expenses, including home decor, private dinners, and forged documents, while no evidence was found that the grant led to any business relocating to Michigan. The MEDC terminated the grant in March 2025 following reports of financial irregularities, and the attorney general’s office has since frozen over $6.3 million in related accounts. Beydoun’s attorney denies the allegations, and the investigation remains ongoing.
