Warren community garden saved, set to expand after city council approves new lease
The South Warren Community Garden, operated by the nonprofit Urban Seed, secured a 10-year lease from the Warren City Council after months of stalled negotiations with the mayor’s office. Community support played a crucial role, with over 130 residents writing letters and attending the council meeting where the lease was unanimously approved. The new agreement allows the garden to expand, invest grant funds, and increase its food production for local families. Organizers are now preparing additional garden beds and planning a community day, awaiting final signatures to make the lease official.
