ICE abandons Romulus immigration detention center plan after AG Dana Nessel lawsuit
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has abandoned plans to convert a Romulus warehouse into an immigration detention center following a lawsuit by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and the city of Romulus. The lawsuit cited concerns about the facility's proximity to schools, flood risks, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of proper legal and environmental review. ICE will now sell the property, but the lawsuit remains active until a formal agreement is reached to ensure the site is not used for detention purposes. Federal agencies have not commented on the decision.
