A church Aretha Franklin allegedly sang in is gone. Was it history or blight?

A historic church building in Inkster, formerly known as Second Baptist, was demolished after standing vacant and deteriorating for years. The property, owned by the Wayne County Land Bank, had become hazardous, with neighbors expressing a mix of sadness over the loss of its history -- including connections to Aretha Franklin and the Underground Railroad -- and relief that a dangerous structure was being removed. Demolition crews allowed residents to collect momentos before tearing down the building, which had become a site for vandalism and trespassing.
