Metro Detroit weather forecast: Cold temps to take over

Well here we go!  Temperatures tonight will be lucky to have two digits by daybreak.  Lows will be on either side of 10 degrees by the time we wake up.  Winds will be light (thank goodness), but enough to bring wind chills below zero at times.  This will all be under partly cloudy skies.

Winds pick up Wednesday.  High temperatures won't get to 20 in the afternoon.  And wind chills will make it feel near 0!  Add to that, some afternoon snow squalls, and it will feel like the dead of winter before we even officially start the season!

Temperatures still have room to drop going toward the end of the work week…   Thursday afternoon and Friday morning will be the coldest.  High temperatures Thursday will be in the low teens.  Lows Friday morning will be close to zero!

Clouds increase through the day Friday, as our next winter storm approaches.  Late Friday night we’ll see snow that will continue through Saturday morning.  But warmer air will change that snow to a wintry mix or even rain by afternoon.  Since that rain/snow line is so close, it goes without saying that this forecast will likely change more than once before we get to the weekend.  But there looks to be enough moisture and early cold air that we can expect some accumulation before the changeover occurs on Saturday.

No warmup next week.  We’re staying below average toward the Christmas holidays.
