Metro Detroit weather: Is winter almost over?

Taste of summer lasts through next week

DETROIT – Forget about a taste a summer: Mother Nature just might be canceling the rest of winter altogether.

We’re still firmly in February on Wednesday night. Snowflakes will be disappearing shortly after sunset and skies will be mostly cloudy overnight. Temperatures will be about 10 degrees colder, in the mid- to upper teens, but winds won't be as brisk as those to which we awakened Wednesday morning.

Thursday will start with clouds and finish with sunshine. Highs will barely get to the freezing mark.

Friday starts the trend toward fantastic weather. We’ll be back above average with highs in the low 40s. It will come with a mix of sun and clouds.

The weekend will bring temperatures more than 20 degrees above average. Highs Saturday through Monday will be in the mid- to upper 50s, and they will come with sunshine.

Rain will move in on Tuesday. Even with slightly cooler numbers, it will still be well above average through the start of next weekend.
