Heating up for Labor Day weekend in Metro Detroit

Temps and mugginess rise ahead of rain chances this weekend

DETROIT – Happy Friday!

It has been a stellar start to September here in Metro Detroit with Friday morning temperatures in the middle 60s for that walk with the dog or, as you make that final morning commute before the Holiday Weekend begins. We are seeing a few more clouds flying in here from the south as we get a boost in temps and humidity for the first half of this weekend. No need for that umbrella on your morning walk and it’s a good idea to wear light, loose fitting clothes if you have to work outdoors as we get a bit muggier.

Today’s sunrise was at 7 a.m.

A few batches of mid and high level clouds will keep pouring into SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario on this Finally Friday. Skies will go from partly sunny to partly cloudy, and then back to partly sunny with no real threat for any rain falling from the clouds. High temperatures will hit the middle and upper 80s through some filtered sunshine with winds S 5-10mph. It’s going to be a great day at Arts, Beats, and Eats in Royal Oak or at the Peach Festival in Romeo where you might just need a little sunscreen.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:05 p.m.

Saturday should be the warmest of this Labor Day Weekend here in Metro Detroit as highs take aim at 90F with a light and warming wind S 5-10mph. We will see a nice mix of sun and clouds on a muggy day with a weak cold front approaching as we head through the evening hours of Saturday. It doesn’t look very promising for showers and storms to fire on this front, but a few isolated showers are worth a mention after the sunsets tomorrow and into the early overnight depending on the timing of that front.

There will be more active weather to our south over these next few days and some of our new computer model data shows a few showers possible Sunday with a front parked near the Ohio border and some moisture moving up from the south. This will mainly mean mostly cloudy skies with a few scattered showers possible on Sunday afternoon with highs in the lower 80s. Don’t cancel any of your outdoor plans but do keep an eye on our 4 Warn Weather App radar just in case.

Labor Day is Monday and we will be battling a little bit of cloud cover from showers well to our south as our skies go from partly sunny to partly cloudy with high temperatures settling a little closer to 80F. Tuesday will be a similar day with fewer clouds and warmer highs into the lower 80s with Wednesday highs hitting the middle 80s or warmer under mostly sunny skies. We may see a few showers toward the end of next week and we will keep you posted.
