Temps warm Thursday ahead of afternoon, evening showers in Metro Detroit

Showers could begin after 6 p.m., but more likely after 8 p.m.

Here is the weather forecast for Metro Detroit.

DETROITGood Thursday morning!

It is not as cold out there this morning with Metro Detroit temperatures starting in the upper 40s to low 50s. Conditions are dry and it is milder, thanks to the warming here all week, plus the addition of some cloud cover that prevents cooling overnight.

We will have some pesky clouds coming and going most of the day, with rain expected here later tonight.

Today’s sunrise is at 7:36 a.m.

We’ll have a mostly cloudy morning before we get a few hours of fewer clouds, making our skies partly cloudy from the late morning into the early afternoon. Eventually, skies over Metro Detroit will become only partly sunny.

High temperatures will be in the low-to-middle 70s, with a warming breeze moving SW at 5-15 mph, gusting to 15-22 mph in the afternoon.

There is a cold front moving through the Upper Great Lakes during the day, bringing an area of disturbed weather into the Saginaw Valley by late afternoon. Parts of the Thumb and areas north of I-69 could begin to see scattered rain and thunder moving in after 4 p.m., moving north to south. That means the heart of Metro Detroit will see showers beginning to move through between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

However, the most likely timeframe for rain here in Metro Detroit is between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Tonight’s sunset is at 7:06 p.m.

A few other disturbances will rumble through here with the passage of this cold front, which means we will likely see two or three waves of rain showers overnight and well before sunrise on Friday.

Some showers Friday morning

A few lighter showers can’t be ruled out Friday morning, especially areas that are downwind from Lake Huron. That includes mainly the Thumb and Southern Ontario for a better chance for Friday morning showers.

Most of Friday will be dry as temps tumble into the middle 40s first-thing. Skies will be mostly cloudy and will stay mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Highs will only be in the low-to-middle 50s, with a stiff breeze moving NW at 7-17 mph, gusting to 20-25 mph.

You will need that jacket for Friday night football games and anything you have going on early on Saturday. Skies will begin to clear out late Friday afternoon, leaving us clear and cold in the low and middle 30s to start out weekend.

Pleasant weekend ahead

Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy Saturday. Temps will be in the middle-to-upper 50s with a consistent breeze moving W at 7-17 mph.

Sunday will be almost identical, only a touch warmer, thanks to a warmer breeze. Morning lows will be in those 30s, and then highs in the lower 60s. Winds will move SW at 7-17 mph.

Rain chances next week

Our computer models show a few scattered showers racing through SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario midday on Monday. Time will tell, but we certainly don’t expect any kind of washout. Instead, it should be partly cloudy and nice with low-to-middle 60s.

Tuesday looks nice and dry with highs near 65-70 degrees before rain shower chances increase on Wednesday. We need that rain. We will keep you posted.
