Normal weather returning after record warmth in Metro Detroit

Sunday’s highs to be over 20 degrees cooler

Normal weather is headed back to Metro Detroit after unseasonably warm conditions.

Following Saturday afternoon’s record warmth with a high of 63 degrees at Detroit Metro Airport (breaking the previous record of 58 degrees from 1946), temperatures will cool.

Behind the rainfall, a cooler air mass is pushing over Southeast Michigan. While a few sprinkles are possible, it will be mostly dry and mostly cloudy for the rest of Saturday night. Lows will be in the lower to mid 30s. The winds have also lowered and will be westerly at 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday

Weather for the second half of the weekend will allow people to fix their blown over decorations or get up the leaves. There is a chance of a few isolated rain and snow showers as another cold front sweeps across the state and as lake-effect action revs up on Sunday. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy. Highs will be around 40 degrees, which is a return to normal temperatures for this point in December. Winds will be out of the west and west-southwest at 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

Monday

High-pressure systems will heavily influence the region’s weather during the workweek, which means a lot of sunshine. Monday will be partly cloudy with a few isolated rain or snow showers passing through the area. Peak temperatures will be in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees.

Pleasant sunrises and sunsets ahead

The partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies will last through the workweek with daily highs ranging from the upper 30s to the mid 40s. Lows will be close to normal in the mid 20s to mid 30s with slightly milder temperatures toward the end of the week. Sunrise will be several minutes before 8 a.m. and sunset around 5 p.m.

Increased cloud cover is likely next weekend, but temperatures will still be comfortable and normal to slightly above normal.
