What type of summer should we expect around Michigan in 2024?

The National Weather Service and NOAA released their seasonal weather outlooks for June, July and August. The predictions are based on probability vs. normal averages, and can help show possible trends in the longer range forecast.

Here’s what the summer outlook says about Michigan weather this year:

Michigan temperature outlook for summer 2024

  • The NOAA outlook shows a 40-50% chance that Michigan sees ABOVE average temperatures this summer, which is about the same for most of the Great Lakes region.
  • The average high temp for Detroit in June is 78 degrees; for July, it’s 83 degrees; for August, it’s 80 degrees.

Michigan precipitation outlook for summer 2024

  • The NOAA outlook shows a 33-40% chance to see ABOVE average precipitation for the southern half of Michigan this summer. Chances are about equal to see average rain for Northern Michigan.
  • The Detroit are averages about 2.8 inches of rain per month in the summer. Our rainiest month is usually May.
