Rain, snow, whipping winds in Metro Detroit: What we’re tracking

Wet days ahead before drier weekend

4Warn Weather – Keep the umbrella on hand on this Wednesday. We’ve got another damp and dreary day on tap.

The morning begins with misty conditions. We start off with morning clouds and patchy drizzle.

We have some chances for scattered, light snow showers across Metro Detroit this morning and into the lunch hour. Any snowflakes will change over to rain this afternoon, when scattered showers are expected.

That will all give way to a few breaks of sunshine ... along with scattered rain showers this afternoon. There is a better chance for rain along and south of I-96 and I-696 this afternoon and evening.

Temperatures will hold steady in the mid-40s as winds gust upward of 20 mph. wind gusts could reach 30 mph today.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:02 p.m.

Scattered rain will continue throughout the night. After sunset, we have a chance for a few more snowflakes to mix in -- particularly at and after 9 p.m.

More rain, snow Thursday

Some overnight snow showers are possible, especially for those closer to the state line. Snow showers could fall there, becoming more widespread around 4 a.m.

Any snowfall Thursday morning will be brief, and won’t result in much accumulation.

Below average temperatures will continue on Thursday. Rain showers are again expected throughout the day, with a few wet snow showers possible -- especially at night. That wintry mix is possible midday, too.

Morning rain/snow on Friday

Cloudy and cool conditions will continue Friday. A rain/snow mix is possible in the morning and early afternoon.

Around noon, a rain/snow mix is expected to push southward into our region. That’s just about one hour before the first pitch at Comerica Park for the Detroit Tigers’ Opening Day.

The rest of the day will be breezy and cloudy. Highs will be in the 40s, but will feel like 30s with the whipping winds. If you’re going to the game, bundle up!

Drier weekend

A dry and slightly warmer weekend is ahead.

Highs will be in the low and mid-50s on both Saturday and Sunday.

Solar eclipse forecast

The total solar eclipse is happening on Monday, April 8!

Right now, the forecast on Monday has highs near 60 degrees. However, we’ll have more clouds than sun with a chance of a few rain showers.

The same forecast applies to areas of northern Ohio, if you are planning on traveling into the path of totality.

If you are itching for warmer weather, we will rise close to 70 degrees on Tuesday and spend the rest of the next week in the 60s.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, expect heavy snow over the upper Great Lakes, upstate New York, and northern New England on Wednesday. Heavy snow is expected over the Sierra Nevada Mountains and central Appalachians on Thursday. There is a slight risk of excessive rainfall over parts of the mid-Atlantic and southern New England on Wednesday, as well as severe thunderstorms over parts of the mid-Atlantic coast to the southeast coast and Florida peninsula.
