The rain showers will move into Southeast Michigan from the west on Sunday night with overnight temperatures settling in the lower 40s.

Monday

Then, it’s the day that many people have marked on their calendars. The solar eclipse will be visible over Southeast Michigan and Southwestern Ontario on Monday afternoon. The day will begin with mostly cloudy skies and a few lingering showers during the morning commute. As showers move toward the northeast, the Thumb will be the last area to see the rain ending by about 8 a.m.

Decreasing clouds will allow for partly cloudy skies by early afternoon. After 2 p.m., skies will be partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Expect highs in the mid 60s to 70 degrees with the cooler temperatures by Lake Huron. Winds will be out of the southeast and south at 8 to 12 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

Solar Eclipse

The eclipse will begin just before 2 p.m. in Southeast Michigan and end about 4:27 p.m. The maximum coverage will be from 3:12 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Expect peak coverage at about 3:12 p.m. in and near Adrian and Chelsea, 3:13 p.m. around Romulus and Monroe, 3:14 p.m. in Detroit and Pontiac, and 3:15 p.m. in Port Huron. The solar eclipse will be closer to totality, or have greater coverage, the farther south and east you are in Michigan. Be sure to take precautions when viewing, such as wearing certified solar eclipse glasses.
