Memorial Day weekend rain chances in Metro Detroit: What to know

Dry with sunshine Thursday, Friday

4Warn Weather – Grab the sunglasses and sunscreen, but don’t worry about it being too steamy.

Comfortable weather with low humidity builds in on this Thursday. Expect calmer winds across Metro Detroit with breezier condition up into the Thumb region.

We’ll have beautiful blue skies today with lots of sunshine. Highs will be around 80 degrees.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:56 p.m.

Skies will stay mostly clear tonight with lows in the upper 50s.

Friday will feature more sunshine, with highs again in the low 80s. The day will remain dry.

There is a chance for showers and storms late Friday into early Saturday, but the line of storms appears to weaken as it pushes eastward toward us.

Memorial Day weekend rain chances

Because that line will weaken as it moves east across Lower Michigan, it’s looking like our rain chances will turn spotty Saturday morning. Rain and storm chances will be more prominent on the west side of the state.

Spotty showers are possible around and after 6 a.m. Saturday in Southeast Michigan. Chances for showers become more widespread around 10 a.m.

As we head into noon, any showers in our more southern areas should weaken. Those in Port Huron and on the eastern edge, though, could continue to see a more organized line of showers through the noon hour.

Rain and showers will move out after noon, though. The rest of the afternoon should remain dry across Metro Detroit.

Highs will be in the low 80s on Saturday.

Additional showers and storms are likely late Sunday into Monday -- likely after sunset on Sunday. Widespread storms are expected around 10 p.m. on Sunday, and will continue across our area through Monday morning, maybe even midday.

Highs will be in the 70s on Sunday and Monday. After that, we’ll struggle to reach 70 degrees early next week with rain chances lingering.

Heading up north for the holiday weekend? Partly sunny conditions are forecasted in northern Lower Michigan with chances for showers each day and highs in the 60s to low 70s.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, heavy rain and a severe weather threat exists down south on Thursday around Texas and Arkansas before moving northward across the northern and central Plains at night. The severe weather threat will shift east into the Midwest on Friday. Meanwhile, heavy snow is expected Thursday across the higher elevations of the northern Rockies.
