CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Canton Township man accused of stabbing three of his family members in 2025 has pleaded guilty to one count of assault with intent to murder.
Derek Attee Alesmaily, entered the guilty plea Wednesday (Aug. 5) in Wayne County’s 3rd Circuit Court.

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed the remaining charges, including two additional counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, three counts of felonious assault and two counts of assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer.
Alesmaily is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m. Aug. 26.
Police responded around 3:40 p.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing. Officers found three victims suffering from multiple stab wounds: Alesmaily’s 42-year-old mother, his 21-year-old brother, both of Canton Township, and his 22-year-old sister, of Dearborn.
All three were taken to a Metro Detroit hospital in serious but stable condition, according to Canton Township police.
Investigators alleged Alesmaily stabbed the victims multiple times before fleeing the scene.
He was arrested a short time later.
At his arraignment in October 2025, Alesmaily was charged with three counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and three counts of felonious assault.
He also was charged as a second-offense habitual offender.
A judge had set his bond at $3 million cash.
Court records show Alesmaily previously had a criminal history that included convictions for failing to stop at the scene of an accident and bank robbery.
Authorities said he had been released on parole just months before the alleged stabbing.
