Storm chances Thursday night

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire region under a marginal risk (1 out of 5 on our severe weather scale) for Wednesday afternoon and evening.

We have the chance to see a few thunderstorms become severe, but this will not result in a widespread severe weather event into the evening and early overnight hours.

If any storm becomes severe, damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour and large hail above 1 inch in diameter will be the primary threats.

Thursday

The rain showers will continue into the overnight hours and into Thursday as well.

Expect the rain showers for at least the first half of the day, but we will hold onto a chance of an isolated shower in the afternoon and evening.

Otherwise, mostly cloudy skies will prevail for the day. Cooler temperatures are expected to continue on Thursday, with high temperatures only reaching the lower 70s by Thursday afternoon.

For the end of the week on Friday, we’ve been watching an area of low pressure develop and move south of the region.

This will keep cloud cover in the forecast, and there is a chance of some rain showers south of Metro Detroit. Temperatures will remain close to average, only into the mid-70s by Saturday afternoon.

Weekend outlook

Looking ahead to the weekend, we can expect some sunshine and minimal cloud cover, making for a charming weekend across the region. High temperatures in the upper 70s both Saturday and Sunday.

Next week

Our next chance of rain moves into the forecast by late Sunday night and into Monday, with another frontal boundary moving into the region.

High temperatures in the upper 70s are expected to persist for the start of next week.

Sunshine and clouds are forecasted for next Tuesday. Temperatures will be just a few degrees cooler, highs into the middle 70s by next Tuesday afternoon.
