Do not leave young children, pets, or unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes with this type of heat and humidity.
Take extra precautions when going outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke setting in.
Forecast Synopsis:
Much like we saw on Thursday, we will keep the chance of a few showers or thunderstorms in through the mid-to-late evening hours tonight, before waking up to a few more showers and thunderstorms to start the day on Saturday.
Outside of the showers and thunderstorms, we will keep some cloud cover around, and it will be warm and humid overnight. The overnight low is dropping out of the 70s for everyone.
Looking ahead to the weekend and the start of next week, we are anticipating our first extended summer heat wave moving into the region.
After the morning shower or thunderstorm on Saturday, we will clear out the clouds from lunchtime into the afternoon, which will help temperatures rebound.
However, once you factor in the humidity, we expect heat index values in the mid-to-upper 90s by Saturday afternoon.
We could have one or two strong to severe thunderstorms on Saturday morning, but we should see the chances for showers and thunderstorms wind down by mid to late morning tomorrow.
Then, we will dry things out through the end of the weekend and end of the start of next week.
High pressure will firmly control the forecast, which means we will see high temperatures into the mid-upper 90s, and with the humidity, heat index values will soar into the lower 100s.
Due to the high heat and humidity forecast, we have issued a 4Warn Weather Alert from Saturday through Wednesday, as the high heat and humidity are expected each day.
Once we reach the middle of next week, a frontal boundary is expected to park itself over the region, and with the high heat and humidity already in place, this will bring the chance of a few scattered showers and thunderstorms each day.
High temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s for the middle of next week, before dropping into the upper 80s, looking ahead to the end of next week.
