Isolated thunderstorms this July 4th brought downpours to some Metro Detroit communities, but conditions are expected to be dry for fireworks shows and other festivities.

Under partly to mostly cloudy skies, late evening temperatures will be in the mid-70s to around 80 degrees. Overnight lows will be around 70 degrees. Winds will be out of the south at 5 to 10 mph.

Air Quality Advisory extended through Saturday, July 5th

The combination of light wildfire smoke and smoke from fireworks is expected to push air quality into the “orange range”—meaning unhealthy for sensitive groups like young children, older adults, and anyone with respiratory issues.

The Air Quality Advisory remains in effect through Saturday night for much of Southeast Michigan, primarily south of I-69.

Heating up

For those keeping an eye on the thermometer, both Saturday and Sunday are expected to reach the lower 90s.

Saturday’s heat index, or feel-like temperature, will be close to the air temperature. Sunday could see heat index values as high as the upper-90s.

Expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies for Saturday, but there will be some clouds and a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon and evening.

Temperatures will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Highs will mostly be in the mid-80s during the workweek, with more rain chances on Wednesday and Thursday.

Lows will be in the mid- to upper-60s.

With an average high of 84 degrees, Metro Detroit is entering what is normally the hottest part of the year.
