After snow moved through the region late this afternoon and into this evening, creating a mess of travel conditions on the commute home from school and work, we will take the snow out of the forecast for a few days and trade it in for some bitterly cold temperatures.
The snow wound down by mid to late this evening, with most places seeing up to an inch of snow accumulation before it’s all said and done.
And with air and road temperatures below freezing, any snow on the ground will stick around for at least a few days.
Thursday
With some snow-covered roads, we could have some travel condition issues through the overnight and into the commute to work in school on Thursday morning.
We will break up the cloud cover overnight and trade it in for some sunshine, looking ahead to Thursday.
High temperatures are only expected to reach the lower 20s by Thursday afternoon.
We will start the day off in the teens, but when you factor in the wind, we expect wind chills to drop into the subzero territory early on Thursday morning.
Expect partly cloudy skies to stick around Thursday night and into early Friday morning, before more cloud cover rolls back into the forecast by the end of the week.
Overnight lows Thursday night into early Friday morning will drop into the single digits in the metro, and closer to zero outside the metro.
Once you factor in the winds, we are expecting windshields to go sub-zero for everybody once again Thursday night into early Friday morning.
Friday
Looking ahead to the upcoming weekend, we expect cloud cover under the forecast both Saturday and Sunday.
I am bringing in the chance of a few snowflakes to start the weekend on Saturday, but most places may not see them.
We’re going to watch a week-long disturbance roll to the north of the region, and I am going to keep a few snowflakes in the forecast as that disturbance comes close to the region.
Next week
High temperatures are expected to warm to just above the freezing mark by Saturday afternoon, then drop back into the 20s by the end of the weekend and the start of next week.
Our next chance of snow rolls into the region, looking ahead from Tuesday and into Wednesday.
This looks to be another clipper system that would roll into the region from the north-northwest.
Expect no chances to increase Tuesday through Tuesday night, and into Wednesday before we expect the snow to wind down Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening.
High temperatures will continue to rise, looking into the middle of next week.
Expect high temperatures in the low 30s on Tuesday, then in the low to mid 30s by next Wednesday.
