Accumulating snow to end the weekend in Metro Detroit; more winter weather chances next week

1 to 2 inches of snow accumulation is expected by the time we get to Sunday afternoon and evening

Another 1 to 2 inches of snow is expected across the region by the end of the weekend on Sunday (WDIV)

4Warn WeatherSUNDAY: Cloudy skies. Snow likely. 1-2″ of accumulation possible for most everyone. High: 30.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy skies. Low: 10.

MONDAY: Mix of sunshine and clouds. High: 25.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy skies. Low: 16.

TUESDAY: Cloudy skies. A chance of snow. High: 35.

We started off the weekend on a dry note across the region, the cloud cover has stuck around overnight last night into early Sunday morning, and we are expecting snow to move through the region as we head throughout our Sunday.

This is all thanks to an area of low pressure working south of the region. Snow has overspread the region after midnight and early on Sunday morning, and we’ll stick around throughout the majority of the day. Most places we’ll see around an inch to an inch and a half of snow accumulation; some areas could see up to 2 inches. The system winds down Sunday mid to late afternoon and into Sunday evening. Daytime highs on Sunday into the upper 20s to right around 30°.

We bring some much-needed sunshine into the forecast to start next week on Monday, but cold temperatures will be sticking around as well. High temperatures starting off into the single digital low teens on Monday morning and only warming into the mid-20s by Monday afternoon.

Another chance of snow moves into the forecast by the time we get to Tuesday, and that is quickly followed by the chance of a rain-snow shower mix for the middle of the week on Wednesday. Some of the data this morning is showing that we may see a colder solution move in for the middle of the week, on Wednesday. If that does occur, this would be more winter weather than that rain-snow wintry mix. High temperatures remaining in the low to mid 30s for Tuesday and into Wednesday.

We’re going to keep a few flakes in the forecast late Thursday night; otherwise, cloud cover sticks around throughout the day on Thursday, before the dry weather sticks around to the end of the week on Friday. Mostly cloudy skies can be expected for Friday. High temperatures into the upper 20s and lower 30s on Thursday will warm only into the mid 20s by the end of next week on Friday.

We do bring a chance of snow showers out of the forecast late Friday night into portions of the overnight. Then we are driving for the majority of the day on Saturday, before another chance of snow showers moves into the region by late Saturday night. High temperatures are dropping, getting even colder as we will only head into the low 20s by Saturday afternoon.
