The snow moved in on queue late last night, has stuck around through the overnight, heading out the door early this morning, which is making the morning commute a real mess despite some of us changing over to a rain, snow shower mix this morning. The snow that did fall is a heavy, wet snow, so it will not be easy to get rid of, leading to over 400 school closings across southeastern Michigan heading through throughout Wednesday.

We’re watching an area of low pressure move right over the region throughout Wednesday morning, this is bringing in just enough warm air at some places will change over to a rain snow shower mix throughout the morning, but the further north, you go the colder it will be an area is north of I-69 should remain snow as we had throughout the entire day today.

As temperatures fall, working through the afternoon and into the early evening hours tonight, everybody goes back to snow this afternoon with a few hours of light snow possible. As temperatures fall below the freezing mark, we are concerned for a refreeze situation this afternoon and into the evening commute tonight for areas that do receive that rain-snow mix.

The snow will wind down late this afternoon, but we will keep the cloud cover in the forecast into the overnight hours tonight and into our Thursday. Anything that is on the ground will stay there, as temperatures are expected to drop into the teens overnight tonight. But once you factor in the winds, wind chills will be into the low end of the teens and single digits.

Looking ahead into our Thursday will keep cloud cover under the forecast, but as a northwesterly flow kicks in bringing colder air into the region, we will see the chance for a few flakes or a few snow showers. Thanks to that lake effect fetch. High temperature is remaining colder, only end of the 20s by the time we get to Thursday afternoon.

Snow chances returned to the forecast by the time we get to the end of the week on Friday, and the first part of the weekend on Saturday. High temperatures will get colder looking ahead into the end of the week and start of the weekend. Expect high temperatures into the upper 20s on Friday, then dropping into the middle 20s by the time we get to the first part of next weekend on Saturday.

Overnight low temperatures Sunday morning and into next Monday morning will drop into the single digits, which means we could see wind chill temperatures at or below zero both mornings.

We do break into some sunshine by the end of the weekend on Sunday, but the clouds increase as we look ahead to the start of next week on Monday and Tuesday. Mostly cloudy skies could be expected both days, and we start to warm up temperatures just a bit. High temperature is warming into the mid-20s on Monday, heading for the upper 20s to lower 30s by the time we get to Tuesday.
