4Warn Weather – Metro Detroit will remain under cold-weather conditions through the weekend, with minor snowfall possible.

Pockets of flurries and light snow will move across Southeast Michigan Friday night into Saturday. Metro Detroit is expected to see little accumulation, with most areas picking up only a dusting.

The better chance for measurable snow will stay northeast of the metro area, where lake-effect snow showers will affect the eastern Thumb, including communities near Lake Huron.

Accumulating snow near Lake Huron

In the Thumb, localized accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible from late Friday through Saturday morning as cold air flowing over Lake Huron fuels narrow snow bands.

Inland areas of Southeast Michigan, including Ann Arbor and Pontiac, are expected to see only scattered flurries or brief light snow showers.

Through Saturday

Temperatures will remain cold through the weekend. Overnight lows will drop into the single digits to near zero, and wind chills are expected to fall below zero in many communities Friday night.

Sunday

Sunday will accompany drier weather and some sunshine as high pressure builds into the region.

Afternoon temperatures are expected to recover into the lower to mid-20s, which will feel slightly milder but still well below normal.

The average high for this time of year in Metro Detroit is 32 degrees.

Looking ahead

A weak weather system may bring another round of light snow on Monday, though there would be minimal accumulation.

After that, a slow warming trend will raise temperatures through next week, with daytime temperatures in the 20s.

Despite the modest warmup, temperatures are forecast to remain below normal throughout the workweek and into the second week of February.

The main impacts for Metro Detroit this weekend will be the continued cold temperatures and occasional flurries, while the most persistent snow will remain focused on the Thumb near Lake Huron.
