4Warn Weather - Widespread snow continued to fall across Southeast Michigan Friday morning, slowing down many on their commute. Only flurries remained by noon, with even a bit of sun through the clouds.
Throughout Friday afternoon scattered snow squalls will be possible.
These squalls will move through quickly but can reduce visibility, make roads slick, and give us another 1/2″ to 1″ of snow.
Snow chances end this evening with clouds decreasing into tonight. Temperatures will plummet from our afternoon highs in the 30s with overnight lows ranging from around -5° to 5°.
That colder air will be brought in by gusty northwesterly winds. You’ll notice it starts to get breezy this afternoon. By dinnertime gusts will be up to 40mph at times.
Winds lighten in the late-night with gusts dropping to around 30mph by midnight, then to around 25mph for the morning.
During this evening into Saturday morning, cold temperatures and the windy conditions will produce frigid wind chills between -15° and -20°.
For this reason, the Detroit National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory that will be in effect from 8:00 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday.
Wind chills this cold can cause frostbite on exposed skin in just half an hour. Make sure to keep pets indoors, limit your time outdoors if possible, and check on those sensitive to the cold. Also remember to follow safety precautions when using a portable heater and never use a generator inside.
Saturday will feature plenty of sunshine but highs only in the mid teens. Afternoon wind chills will be in the low single digits.
