4Warn Weather – A mid-February thaw is arriving just in time for Valentine’s Day and the Presidents’ Day holiday weekend across Southeast Michigan.
Dry conditions are expected to hold through the weekend, with temperatures gradually climbing each day.
Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day plans appear to be in good shape across the region. Whether heading out for dinner, attending events downtown, or enjoying outdoor activities, the weather is expected to cooperate.
Afternoon temperatures around 40 degrees will ease back into the 30s during the evening hours, which is mild by mid-February standards, with dry skies and light winds.
While a coat will still be needed after sunset, conditions are expected to be quiet, with no rain or snow to disrupt reservations or travel.
Sunday
By Sunday, temperatures will reach the lower to mid-40s across much of Metro Detroit under a mix of sun and clouds.
Expect clouds to decrease. Winds remain light through the weekend, limiting any added chill and making outdoor plans more comfortable than recent weeks.
Presidents’ Day
Presidents’ Day on Monday continues the warming trend. Afternoon highs are forecast to reach 50 degrees and greater — more than 15 degrees above the mid-February average, which typically sits in the mid-30s.
The dry stretch should provide favorable conditions for travel, errands, and outdoor activities.
Melting by day, refreezing at night
While the weekend will be dry, melting snow during the afternoon could refreeze overnight as temperatures dip back into the 20s Saturday night and near 30 Sunday night.
That may lead to a few slick spots on untreated sidewalks, driveways, and shaded secondary roads early in the mornings before temperatures rise again.
Midweek
The warming trend peaks on Wednesday, when highs are expected to reach the lower 50s.
While well above normal, temperatures are not forecast to approach record territory.
The record for Wednesday, Feb. 18, is 69 degrees, which was set in 2017.
The dry pattern will not last indefinitely. The next chance of precipitation arrives Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Early projections indicate rain is most likely for Metro Detroit, though some uncertainty remains about whether a mix could develop farther north, depending on temperature profiles.
Despite the midweek system and cooler air on the backend, temperatures are expected to remain above normal through the week.
Rain and snow showers will also be possible on Thursday and Friday.
For many across Southeast Michigan, the upcoming stretch offers a welcome break from winter’s grip with sunshine, milder afternoons, and dry conditions aligning well with holiday plans.
