4Warn Weather – Warm sunshine returns Thursday before rain chances increase heading into Friday and the weekend across Southeast Michigan.

After a few isolated showers and storms earlier Wednesday evening in Lenawee and Monroe counties, conditions have quieted down. Skies will stay mostly clear overnight with lows dropping into the mid to upper 40s.

That clear sky is setting the stage for a great opportunity to catch the Lyrid meteor shower, which peaks around this time in April. If you are planning to skywatch, the best viewing will be after midnight into the early morning hours.

You will want to look toward the northeastern sky, away from city lights, for the best chance to spot meteors. Under ideal conditions, you might see around 10 to 20 meteors per hour, though the numbers can vary. No special equipment is needed. Just give your eyes time to adjust to the darkness.

Thursday

Thursday looks like one of the nicest days of the stretch. Expect plenty of sunshine with afternoon highs climbing into the mid-70s.

Winds stay light out of the south-southeast, making for comfortable conditions from morning through evening.

That includes a great setup for the Detroit Tigers’ afternoon game at Comerica Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Temperatures will be in the upper 60s to near 70 at game time, warming into the lower to mid-70s through the afternoon. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny with no rain expected, making for ideal baseball weather.

It is also a great day to tackle outdoor tasks.

If you have been waiting to mow the lawn, Thursday offers dry conditions, light winds, and comfortable temperatures before wet weather returns.

Friday

Rain chances begin to increase on Friday.

While a few showers are possible during the afternoon, the better chance for widespread rain and a few thunderstorms arrives Friday evening into Friday night.

Some of that rain could be steady at times, so plan accordingly for evening travel and outdoor plans.

This weekend

By Saturday, a few lingering showers are possible early, especially in the morning, before drier air works in.

Temperatures trend cooler behind the system, with highs settling back into the 60s for the weekend and into early next week.

Overnight lows throughout the period will generally fall into the 40s and low 50s, closer to seasonal norms for late April.
