Frosty start to the work week in Metro Detroit, warmer weekend ahead

Patchy frost possible again tonight with rain on the way Tuesday

After a frosty start to the morning, high pressure will deliver plenty of sunshine today, but a persistent northerly breeze will keep temperatures feeling cool. Be sure to grab the sunglasses and an extra layer before heading out, as afternoon highs will only reach the upper 50s — roughly ten degrees below average for this time of year.

Another chilly night is ahead tonight with temperatures once again dipping into the 30s in some areas. That means patchy frost will be possible overnight into early Tuesday morning. Make sure to protect sensitive plants overnight.

Temperatures rebound into the low 60s on Tuesday, but the slightly warmer air also brings our next chance for rain. Showers are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon and continue into Tuesday night. A few rumbles of thunder are possible, though any storms that develop are expected to remain below severe limits.

A lingering shower may hang around early Wednesday before drier conditions return by daybreak.

The bigger weather story arrives by the end of the week as a much warmer pattern settles in. Temperatures will climb above average heading into the weekend, with highs potentially flirting with 80 degrees by Saturday and Sunday. While Saturday carries the next chance for rain, much of the upcoming weekend is shaping up to feel far more like early summer than mid-May.
