4Warn Weather – After a week that featured strong thunderstorms, including heavy rain and gusty winds, southeast Michigan is settling into a calmer weather pattern just in time for a busy holiday weekend.
The transition begins Thursday night as breezy conditions gradually ease across the region.
West winds that gusted between 30 and 35 mph on Thursday afternoon will weaken as the storm system responsible for this week’s unsettled weather continues to move away from the Great Lakes.
Skies will gradually clear overnight, and temperatures will tumble into the lower- to mid-50s by Friday morning.
Juneteenth
That cool start will set the stage for what may be the nicest day of the forecast.
Juneteenth on Friday looks beautiful across Southeast Michigan. Sunshine, comfortable humidity, and afternoon temperatures in the mid 70s will provide nearly ideal conditions for outdoor celebrations, festivals, and community events.
Temperatures will peak around 75 degrees.
Saturday
The pleasant weather will try to continue into Saturday. While a weak disturbance may trigger a few showers and an isolated thunderstorm in parts of Southeast Michigan, many communities will likely remain dry.
Temperatures will once again reach the mid-70s.
Sunday
Father’s Day on Sunday remains largely favorable for outdoor plans. High temperatures will climb into the upper 70s under a mix of sun and clouds.
A few scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop later in the day, with the best chance of rain arriving Sunday night.
Ford Fireworks forecast
The next weather system could linger into Monday morning with a chance for showers before gradually moving out of the region.
That timing is encouraging for the Ford Fireworks on the Detroit River.
Current forecast trends point to improving weather on Monday afternoon and evening, with dry conditions likely in Detroit and Windsor in the evening.
Temperatures should fall from around 70 degrees in the early evening into the lower 60s around the start of the fireworks show shortly after 10 p.m. Skies are expected to become mostly clear, with temperatures dropping into the upper 50s later in the night.
The average high temperature for this time of year is 81 degrees, meaning much of Southeast Michigan will spend the next several days running several degrees below normal.
Combined with lower humidity and only limited rain chances, it should make for a comfortable stretch of weather for Juneteenth celebrations, Father’s Day activities, and one of Detroit’s biggest summer traditions.
