4Warn Weather - The Detroit National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for all of Southeast Michigan from 12:00pm Tuesday until 8:00pm Thursday.
After a wonderful Summer weekend, heat and humidity are rising this week.
Temperatures will still be relatively comfortable this evening and overnight, falling into the low 60s by Monday morning under mainly clear skies.
Monday brings more heat and humidity with highs in the low 90s.
With the added humidity, it will feel closer to 100° in the afternoon. We’ll see some passing clouds throughout the day and a stray shower can’t be ruled out, although most will remain dry.
Monday night temperatures only drop to the low 70s.
Tuesday brings another step up in the heat and humidity. Highs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be near or at 100°. Heat indices could reach up to 110° each of those days with overnight lows remaining in the mid 70s.
The National Weather Service has listed the Heat Risk Monday as Moderate to Major, Major for Tuesday, and Extreme for Wednesday and Thursday.
Friday’s risk is Major to Extreme as Friday’s highs fall only slightly into the mid and upper 90s.
An Extreme Heat Risk is defined as a rare and/or long-duration extreme heat event with no overnight relief. It can impact anyone without cooling/hydration as well as health systems, industries, and infrastructure.
Make sure that you’re keeping yourself safe during multiple days of hot weather. Stay hydrated, reduce strenuous activities, take breaks in a cooler environment, and wear light and loose clothing. Never leave children or pets in a parked car for any amount of time.
Also remember to check on those who are sensitive to the heat. Double-check the pavement before walking dogs as well - if you can’t hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds your dog should be walking on the grass instead of the pavement.
As far as relief from the heat, highs this weekend will be in the lower 90s. We see partly sunny skies Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with a chance for rain each day.
