Metro Detroit weather: Beautiful rest of workweek before weekend showers

Chilly starts lead to nice afternoon forecasts

DETROIT – Chilly starts in Metro Detroit will pay off with beautiful afternoons -- for a while, at least.

Expect another crisp evening with temperatures just a touch milder than Monday night. Expect lows in the 40s for most of us. Temperatures in the 30s won't be as common. Check the 4ZONE page for all the numbers.

There's no stopping the sunshine for the rest of the workweek. That will be enough to take us into the 70s for highs Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. That's when the gravy train will come to a halt.

A sharp, strong and wet cold front will slowly inch its way across the state this weekend. By Friday, rain will be likely in west and central Michigan, but it should stay out of our area until overnight into early Saturday morning. That will keep us wet through lunch hour Saturday.

The low pressure center at the northern end of that front should stay a bit further north than earlier data suggested. So snow chances look lower for northern Michigan. It's still possible the Upper Peninsula could see some flakes mixed with rain Sunday afternoon, but this system looks like mostly rain.

Temperatures will take a dive this weekend, too. Highs will return to the 50s, with lows mainly in the 30s starting Sunday morning. After so much time above normal, the majority of our 10-day forecast will be below seasonal average temperatures.
