Relief from the heat and humidity in SE Michigan

DETROIT – No doubt about it…it’s been a tough go recently for those without air conditioning.

Finally, relief from the heat and humidity came in Sunday afternoon in the form of a cold front, which is nothing more than the front edge of a cooler, drier air mass.  You may have noticed the difference when you went to bed but, if not, you’ll definitely know the difference when you head to work this morning.  Something else I need to mention is that some of us desperately need some rain.  Metro Airport has only received 0.39” of rain this month…that’s only 17% of our average through today.  A few good soakers this week sure wouldn’t hurt.

Skies will start out mostly sunny today, but be sure to grab both the sunglasses AND umbrella today, because you’ll notice puffy cumulus clouds starting to develop by mid-to-late morning and, by this afternoon, we’ll become mostly cloudy with some showers and thunderstorms developing.  Although I do not expect any severe weather, don’t be surprised if you see some pea-size hail in the showers and storms with the heaviest downpours.  Highs in the mid-to-upper 70s (that’s 24-26 degrees Celsius for our Canadian friends using the Metric System).  Southwest to west wind at 10 to 20 mph.

Today’s sunrise is at 5:57 a.m., and today’s sunset is at 9:13 p.m.

Showers gradually end this evening, with skies eventually becoming partly cloudy.  Lows in the upper 50s (15 degrees Celsius) means it’ll be great sleeping weather tonight.

Partly cloudy on Tuesday with scattered showers developing.  Highs in the low to mid 70s (22-24 degrees Celsius).

Mostly cloudy Tuesday night with showers developing.  Lows in the upper 50s (15 degrees Celsius).

Partly cloudy on Wednesday…this will probably be our best day of the work week.  Highs in the upper 70s (26 degrees Celsius).

Increasing clouds Wednesday night, with a chance of showers later at night.  Lows in the mid 60s (18 degrees Celsius).

Thursday and Friday both feature a chance of showers and thunderstorms, with highs in the low to mid 80s (28-30 degrees Celsius).

The weekend:

Graduation party season is well underway (I was at one myself this past Saturday) and, right now, it appears that Saturday appears to be the better of the two upcoming weekend days, with partly cloudy skies and highs in the low 80s (28 degrees Celsius). There is a chance of showers on Sunday, with highs in the upper 70s (26 degrees Celsius).
