Suspects forcibly kidnapped 2-year-old child, police say

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – An armed man who kidnapped his 2-year-old child and barricaded himself inside an Ann Arbor hotel is in custody after a standoff, according to Ann Arbor police.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies responded to a parental kidnapping just before 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, in the 9000 block of Julie Drive.

The father of the child and a second suspect were armed with guns when they forced their way into the home, assaulted the people in the home, and forcibly took the 2-year-old child. Police have yet to identify the second suspect.

The suspect was tracked to the Victory Inn hotel on Washtenaw Avenue in Ann Arbor where he barricaded himself in the hotel with the child.

There was a large police presence near the hotel on Wednesday, Feb. 7, morning. Back roads and entrances to the hotel were closed during the standoff.
