WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – Get rid of unusable appliances during four county clean-up days slated to happen around Washtenaw County this summer.

Washtenaw County Water Resources Materials Management Division staff and volunteers will help community members safely recycle or dispose of bulky items or things that can’t be picked up during trash collection.

Only residential-use items will be accepted this year, including car tires, appliances, furniture, mattresses, scrap wood and metal, bulky waste and electronics. Household hazardous waste, like pool chemicals, paint, cleaning products, medical needles and batteries, will also be accepted.

Pesticides will be accepted, even if used by nonprofits, businesses and other organizations.

Residents can get rid of up to four car tires for free and are limited to 10 tires. A $5 donation is suggested for each tire.

Residents are encouraged to make a $15 donation to support the events.

“The participation at these events is fantastic! Last year we collected over a half a million pounds of material from over 1700 residents at our Clean-Up Days. Residents last year really appreciated how much the new registration process reduced wait times. We are thankful to our volunteers and sponsors that help create such a valued community service,” said Public Works Director Theo Eggermont.

Each clean-up day runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Here’s the schedule:

  • June 15 – Augusta Township | Registration starts May 6.
  • June 29 – Northfield Township | Registration begins May 20.
  • July 27 – Pittsfield Township | Registration opens June 17.
  • August 24 – City of Ypsilanti | Registration starts July 15.

Residents need to register for each clean-up day. Registration opens six weeks before each scheduled event. Registration closes one week before the event or once all time slots are filled.

The exact location of each event will be given during registration.

Register at washtenaw.org/cleanup or by calling 734-222-3950.

Washtenaw County, Northville Township and City of Northville residents who can’t make a clean-up day event can make a weekday appointment at the Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Center on West Five Mile Road.

The Home Toxics Center, at 705 N Zeeb Rd., is open to Washtenaw County residents on Saturdays.
