Detroit is a market that moves fast. Breaking news and weather are at the core of what we do.
This is the Motor City. Motown. Home to the Lions, Tigers, Pistons, and Red Wings… a powerhouse city with deep roots, real pride, and a community that expects strong, urgent journalism.
WDIV Local 4, the Graham Media Group-owned NBC affiliate in Detroit, is looking for a Multiplatform Executive Producer who knows how to build shows and coverage that move fast, hit hard, and matter — on air, online, and in real time. This is a newsroom where breaking news and weather lead, and where a digital-first mindset is essential from the start, not an afterthought.
If you’re someone who thrives in controlled chaos, can own a rundown, command a control room, think beyond the broadcast, and pivot coverage across platforms in seconds… we want to talk to you.
Position overview
As a Multiplatform Executive Producer, you’ll lead the daily execution of newscasts, digital, and streaming coverage with a focus on urgency, clarity, and impact.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You’re not just overseeing. You’re driving coverage across platforms, making real-time decisions, and pushing the team to deliver stronger, smarter journalism every day.
Responsibilities
- Own the mechanics of coverage across platforms: story selection, pacing, timing, and execution for broadcast, live streams, and digital.
- Drive a digital-first mindset — prioritizing speed, accuracy, SEO, and audience engagement from the start.
- Lead multiplatform breaking news in real time, making fast editorial decisions and adjusting coverage as new information comes in.
- Write and edit with urgency and precision for broadcast, web, app, and push alerts.
- Oversee live streaming coverage, ensuring strong structure, constant updates, and clear communication with viewers.
- Coach producers to think beyond the rundown — writing for multiple platforms, updating quickly, and owning their content end-to-end.
Key qualifications
- At least 2 years as an Executive Producer in a fast-paced newsroom.
- Proven ability to lead during breaking news and severe weather.
- Sharp writing and copy-editing skills.
- Solid news judgment and understanding of journalistic standards.
- The ability to stay calm, decisive, and focused when things get hectic.
- A competitive mindset. You want to win.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including mornings, nights, and weekends.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across work groups.
Preferred qualifications
- Proficiency with newsroom and digital content systems.
- A college degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
